Skinny and sleepy!

Captain mid-tail wag!

I am sooooo glad to be home! It was wonderful to see all our family and friends on the East coast, but we had a stressful time leaving Captain - long story, but luckily we ended up being able to switch him to somewhere he seems much happier while we were gone. The folks at K9 Playtime love Captain and take great care of him and keep us posted on how he's doing. He was so wiggly and excited when we picked him up, and he's happily asleep on 'his' couch now.

Unfortunately Captain never seems to eat much while I'm gone, so he's pretty skinny. My goal is to fatten him back up to his usual 60 lbs. Anyone have any tips for Vizsla-mommy-has-left-me anxiety?
I'm so tired, mom, but you can still rub my belly!

Hope everyone had a great holiday, and Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas!

Hope everyone is enjoying a very happy holiday season! If you're lucky enough to have not traveled far and are snuggled up on your couch with your Vizsla, give him or her (or them!) a big hug for me! We're back East for a quick holiday family visit, while Captain's living it up at O'Paws. He even got to go to a Crissy Field SF Vizsla Meet-up without us. Wonder if he took any good pictures for me :-) Oh well, next time.

Bend it like Captain

Captain's favorite new sport? Soccer! (Or, 'football' for any non-Americans out there.... although in Captain's case 'mouth & pawball' might be more appropriate).

Sure, the ball might be a tad big for his mouth- but he LOVES chasing it!

Tis the season

The lights are up, the tree is decorated (and on top of the kennel!), and Captain is cuddling! We didn't make it to any beaches or special parks this weekend (just our usual jaunts), but Captain still enjoyed blankets, bones, and basking in the sun (when it was out). He also had fun at a little holiday party we threw at our apartment with some friends - always the center of attention :-)

Enjoying a treat:
Playing with his blanket:

On top of daddy:

I'm already somewhat dreading having to leave him again soon when we go back East for Christmas... but, Captain will be with our friends at O'Paws for almost 5 days, and I know he'll be well taken care of in "Vizlsa heaven".

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Video time!

More installments from YouTube, just for fun!

This poor guy just can't get that oddly familiar looking puppy to chase him :-)

Too cute. Captain used to stop and stare at his reflection in store windows.

And the next one- oh, the things we do to our dogs:

Got me thinking about our tree this year too- last year we had a teeny one on top of a cabinet, but this year I'm hoping to get a full sized one... that is, if Captain will leave it alone.

Finally, the puppy in this one just killed me! I want another one!

Have a good day and give your Vizsla a big squeeze!

Rodeo Beach

Saturday we went to the beautiful Rodeo Beach for some beach time.

Ziggy joined us too, so it was a very Vizsla day- lots of fun!

My husband caught this action shot- what a jump!

There are some great hills and hiking trails off the beach.Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Still here!

I'm back from my travels and Vizsla Thing is still here! We have been enjoying some QT together with Captain- hopefully we'll have some pics from Funston or another area park this weekend. For now, Captain is content to cuddle on the couch with mommy and have his usual sunbathing on our porch. Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving!

2 weeks without Mommy?!

Well, it's another trip back East for me, and this time I'll be gone for just over 2 weeks. The good news is, I'm going back to complete the last step of my graduate degree... the bad news is 2 whole weeks without Captain!

Today we had a nice long playdate with the neighborhood dogs (unfortunately no Ziggy as expected- he went on a day trip to enjoy the beautiful weather) and even got to see Taz, who Captain hadn't seen in a long time. For the next few weeks, it will be lots of QT with daddy...

Check back for more around Thanksgiving! Til then, happy Vizsla trails!

OMG- a non-Vizsla post!

Ok, I couldn't help myself, our friends made this video of their dog Trax and it is too cute. Enjoy! (PS- turn the volume up!)

We may just need to get Captain some booties!

Stay tuned- puppy play date with Ziggy tomorrow!!

Saturday play-up

Time for another puppy play-up!

I told you we'd be seeing more of Ziggy!

He's still pretty little but loves playing with Captain. Kind of makes you want another one, doesn't he? :-)

Sun bathing

Captain loves to find whatever spot of sun he can to lie in. (That is, when he's not busy running around)

How can I resist taking pictures of this??

Halloween #2

This Sunday our neighborhood had it's second doggie Halloween party, hosted by South Paw/ Pawtrero and benefiting Muttville. Everyone was out in their cutest costumes! I didn't really have one for Captain (he's not a 'dress up' kind of guy) so I just threw his backpack and a bandana on and called him "Little Red Hiking Dog."

It was a hot day and a good turn out:

And Ziggy was there too!
Captain always wants to check and see if the other dog's moms have better treats....As a sidenote, my husband has been working on Fido Factor, a local dog-friendly search and review site, with 2 other founders. Yesterday they attended a conference called FailCon and won the audience choice award (the conference was about learning from failure, but there were a number of start-ups with tables presenting). You may have caught them on the NBC Bay area news. We're hoping Fido will take off and then it will really be a dog's life :-)

The new kid in town

Hold onto your hats, there's a new Vizsla puppy in town! Meet the adorable, playful, 3 month old Ziggy:
We had a "puppy play-up" this morning with our fun neighborhood dog group, so it was off to a local park to play:

Lots of Ziggy pictures!Ziggy and our new neighbor Trax, a beautiful lab-boxer mix puppy:

Captain loves Ziggy! We're happy to have a little mini-Captain around.

Captain, Sc.D. ?

I have two weeks before my dissertation defense, and Captain is helping me prepare...

Well, sort of...

Sleepy time

"Mom, will you put that camera away and leave me alone already?"

Zzzzzzzz....This is what I think of when I meet people who think Vizslas are 100% crazy! They also happen to be 100% good at being a cuddly coach potato (after they've gotten their exercise of course).

Rain, rain...

We've been having some rainy weather here in SF, and good thing we got Captain a jacket just in time. Of course, that doesn't mean he likes going out in bad weather, but at least he looks good putting up with it. The last time we had a Vizsla meetup scheduled on a rainy day, Jon from O'Paws said "Vizslas melt in the rain"- so true! Here's to not melting anymore :-)

Time to procrastinate!

Anyone up for some more Vizsla videos? That's right, I've been looking around YouTube again for cute and funny videos of our favorite breed. It's raining like crazy today in SF, so I found some to brighten the day!

Captain goes nuts for laser pointers too, although not quite like this:

This one got me excited to take Captain up to Tahoe this winter!

And oh my goodness, who doesn't love babies??!!!

And... time to get back to work!

Point Isabel day

Saturday we stopped by Point Isabel for some doggie fun. So many dogs out and about! We ran into 3 different Vizslas, too, so it was fun to meet and greet!

The first V of the day, a 4 year old female (whose name I forget!)V#2 was V#1's older 'brother'.... here is up close with V#3:
Captain contemplates a chase into the water:...and says hello to a little friend:
