Prizes in the couch

Look at that tail in action! Captain has been hiding that chew behind our couch pillows recently.... I keep coming home and finding the cushions pushed aside. He just looks at me, like, "What?" and then acts all surprised when I pull it out from behind the pillows. Then he runs it into his kennel or bed, re-hiding it (to re-hide in the couch again later). I'm starting to wonder if he'll ever actually eat that thing, or if we'll just find it, years later, stuck somewhere in the couch....

Thumper

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Hope yours is as relaxing as Captain looks above.

Every now and then (ok, fairly often) we let Captain curl into bed with us. It always cracks us up, because his tail goes wild under the covers. Click below to watch our little thumper!

Captain of Christmas Future?!

Time for the next ghost of Captain Christmas...

King Captain is Christmas Future! (?!)

Ok, maybe not. Maybe I went a little nuts dressing up my dog. My husband walked by as I was taking these pictures and just shook his head.

But, since I have them, here are a few more King Captain pictures:
I CAN NOT believe you are doing this to me.

Seriously, I'm not even going to look at you. This is ridiculous. You realize I'm a BOY, right?! And, you know, canine?

Ok, something tells me Captain of Christmases future will look more like this:

And I'm totally ok with that ;-)

I honestly never thought I would be one of those people that dressed up my dog. Sigh. Oh well. I gave him a bunch of treats afterwords, so I don't think he was too traumatized!

Stay tuned for the best Captain Christmas of all!

Topsy turvy

It kills me when he does this.

Although, looking at that upside-down picture makes me feel a little funny.
This is the right-side up view:

I can't handle the cuteness. This leads to what we call "smother mother" behavior in our house - hugs and cuddles galore from Mommy ;-)

One of my favorite Vizsla videos...

Reading the title, you might think this is going to be some wonderful video of a beautiful Vizsla running through open fields, or on perfect point.
Nope. It's this:

Gets me every time. I love it.

(And yes, I've posted it before. But I figured it deserved it's own spotlight, with the new 'funny' tag too- I've been updating the labels on the blog a bit!)

My other favorite V vid is, of course, of Captain as a puppy: here. I have to admit, my husband and I still sing "little baby puppies, there they are" every now and then (just watch the video) ;-)

Boots

A couple of weeks ago I got the Ruff Wear hiking boots for Captain, mainly because they were on a major sale, and our friends have them. The last time we went hiking in Tahoe, the terrain was covered in lots of small sharp rocks, so we thought the paw protection might come in handy at some point. After putting the boots on Captain for the first time though, I'm not really sure we'll ever use them... but who knows.

The first try he seemed afraid to put any weight at all on his paws. He was totally bewildered.

I felt a little bad laughing... but it was pretty funny. Poor Captain.

Not quite ready to run up mountains in them, but I had him walk around the apartment in them, jump up and down from the couch, and run to me. He did get a little better, and treats were helpful, but he still seemed pretty uncomfortable. It's one of those things that I'm sure he'd get more used to the more he wore them, but it just seems so unnatural to me (and him)!

Hopefully we'll get to do some hiking soon (boots or not)!

Good thing I can never get enough of good Vizsla photos. We'll be in Tahoe this weekend so hopefully we'll have some good pics of our own to share! Going to be a packed house- 6 humans and 5 dogs!

It wasn't me

This morning I decided to wash Captain's bed cover. I left the inner cushion on the floor of our bedroom and then got to work-and the rest is history.

If this isn't a "Really, I'm not guilty" look, I don't know what is...

I swear, he really is a good dog! Here are some other recent shots:
(Oh, and by the way, Captain apparently didn't get the memo that he's supposed to be tired after the neutering surgery. Nope. Full speed ahead. And that's why we love this energetic breed!)

The antics of an active dog

We left Captain home alone for an hour or so yesterday, unfortunately when he was a bit too worked up. Came home to find this...

...all our coupons, an issue of City Dog and an issue of Vegetarian Times shredded to pieces. Goes to show how much these dogs really need good exercise! Needless to say, we went for a nice little run this morning.

Then I just had to spoil him with a few new toys. Witness what I call "Gumby Gets IT"
Then it was on to a fine bottle of "Kennel Relax'n" Char-dog-nay:

The hard life of a puppy...
