Perfect Bernal Day

Today we had awesome weather, an awesome park, and an awesome doggie event. First it was fun in Bernal Heights, with perfect blue skys and great views of the city.

We had time for a little window shopping:

Then we headed to Stray Bar for Bay Woof's "Beast of the Bay"- an event that rates SF's best dog spots, with all proceeds going to the winner of the best dog rescue group category. There was live music, prizes, treats, and best of all lots of friendly dogs and people to hang out with while we relaxed with a beverage!

First trip to Tahoe

Captain and Trax in the car ready for Tahoe!
Saturday evening we headed to Tahoe with our friends. It was dark by the time we got there, so I didn't get a good shot of Captain's first romp in the snow, and I'll admit my video of his first steps on ice isn't very exciting, but here it is nonetheless:

There was a much better run around a little field nearby, but it was too dark to catch on the camera!
Captain in our room at the dog-friendly Park Tahoe Inn
The next day our boys went off to daycare at Tails & Trails while we were skiing. From the reports, they had a great time playing around in the snow during the walks. Next time when we go up for longer I'll have to make sure to get some good daytime photos!

Captain cuddling up with our friend

We're going to Tahoe this weekend!! I am so excited, because not only is it MY first time to Tahoe ever, but it's also Captain's... which means his first snow experience! We're going with this little guy and his parents:It will be a quick trip- going up Saturday night and coming back Sunday night, but we're all geared up for some great snow! Check back Monday for snow stories!

Captain Explorer

We headed back up the coast on Saturday to show an out of town friend some of California's great coastline. Our weather wasn't great, but Captain didn't mind!

Taking in the view of the Golden Gate bridge:
Jumpin' for joy at Rodeo Beach:

More views at Muir Beach Overlook:
And playing around at Point Reyes:

Redwood Regional Park

This Saturday we explored a new park in the East Bay- Redwood Regional Park. It was great! Dogs are allowed to be off-leash on most of the trails, and since it was somewhat cloudy and cool we nearly had the place to ourselves- although we did meet a friendly pup along the way. Captain was all about sniffing every inch of the trail, exploring, and doing some "crazypuppyrun" too.

Ready?
Crazy turn back to Daddy!
Incredible flying ears!!
Running is sooooo fun :-)
Time for a treat!

And back to sniffing around

Very fun day. The Easy Bay continues to impress me with its seemingly endless supply of great parks and hiking trails. Captain approved!

Laser Mouse!

I'll admit I'm a little against laser pointers as toys- something about confusing my poor dog and not letting him have the satisfaction of actually catching the darn thing- but, then again, it is just so funny...

...and not a half-bad way to get some indoor energy out. Luckily Captain does most of his hunting outside- well, pointing at pigeons anyway :-)

Vizsla thoughts

I came across this site today that has a few 'Vizsla Mantras' and a 'Vizsla Dictionary.' I've copied some of my favorites here:

Vizsla mantras:
There is nothing like a Vizsla wiggle...to make you smile and giggle!
Leave your chair, risk getting it stolen by a Vizsla.

If it looks like a tree....I want to make it mine.
Let no face go un-licked.
I came, I saw, I pointed....

Definitions according to Vizslas:
LEASH: A strap which attaches to your collar, enabling you to lead your person where you want him/her to go.
DOG BED: Any soft, clean surface, such as the white bedspread in the guest room or the newly upholstered couch in the living room.
SOFAS: Are to dogs like napkins are to people. After eating, it is polite to run up and down the front of the sofa and wipe your whiskers clean.

So true!

Happy New Year!

We enjoyed a Crissy Field day with Captain the day after New Year's. It was the usual digging, running, wading, and playing!
