This weekend my husband and I- and Captain too!- ran the Rocky Ridge 10K, at Las Trampas Regional Wilderness area. We like to do a bunch of races every year, but this was Captain's first time joining us, since many races don't allow canine companions. But lucky for Captain, this one did, so he was right there with us at 8AM Saturday morning, ready to charge!
To say the race was hilly would be an understatement. It was about a 1,000 ft climb up what seemed like a never-ending hill. It was so foggy you couldn't even see what you were running up- I'm not sure if that made it better or worse. The total ascent/descent was 1,469 ft. But Captain seemed unphased- after the race he was excited, waggy tailed, and ready for more. I have to say, though, I think he liked the post-race food the best... Mommy just *might* have sneaked him some peanut butter AND cream cheese :-) Plus, he got plenty of attention from other runners.
A successful first race for Captain! He's ready for the next one. Next time he might just want to run with Mommy instead though, since he said Daddy was too slow ;-)
Way to go Captain (and humans)!
